Through education, social, and cultural activities, the Senior Citizens’ Center of Oak Park and River Forest seeks to inspire older adults. With a commitment to help people to continue their quest for lifelong learning, the center also provides supports to encourage individual independence along with broadening horizons and encouraging involvement in the community.

We offer a variety of special programs and volunteer projects and opportunities to keep our members active and involved in our greater community.

Award winning services for seniors in the Oak Park area, honored with the Dr. Fitzimmins Award from the Department of Public Health, the Johnson Award for restaurant cleanliness and individual awards too. The Oak Park Township Senior Services provide transportation options, a lunch program, discounted taxi cab service, Case Management Services, driving courses and many other services for the older adult.

Born to be a barber, Emil Messina has been cutting hair at the Oak Park Arms since 1986.  Before coming to the Arms, Emil cut hair at the Conrad Hilton at the Palmer House for more than 34 years. He has cut the locks of many celebrities including Liberace and Jack Benny. Emil gives customers what they want, which is why he has customers from all over.

Dr. Matteson has had an office at the Oak Park Arms for more than 30 years. He has been in private practice since 1977 and has taught psychology at several Universities including the University of Illinois, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and Northern Illinois University. Dr. Matteson believes that the whole person is important and coordinating with psychiatrists, general practitioners, social workers and family members is vital.

After graduating from the Dr. William Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, Magna Cum Laude, and completing her residency at Loyola Medical Center Dr. Chon went into private practice. Maria Chon has had her office in the Oak Park Arms for nearly 14 years. Her impeccable care, gentle nature, and charming personality make an exceptional combination. Dr. Chon loves developing relationships with her patients and interacting with them.

Lotus Wellness Studio is operated by Jean Brooks and David Lasaine, Licensed Massage Therapists in the State of Illinois. Jean and Dave have been practicing massage since 2002 and are especially grateful to be working with people of all ages and abilities especially the older adult population.

For convenience and comfort, we welcome family members and friends who are visiting residents at the Oak Park Arms to  use the Arms’ guest suites. Families and friends stay at a discounted rate and can use all of the accommodations in the building including the Georgian Room Restaurant, fitness room, billiard table and library.

The Oak Park Arms offers its residents free scheduled transportation to local stores or service providers within the area. We also provide regular trips to local grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, malls, and library.
