The Monday Night Concert Series continues with a performance featuring the Odyssey Woodwind Quintet at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Avenue, Oak Park.
The event features chamber music for an ensemble of four woodwinds and one brass instrument: flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, and French horn. Specific music is written for this combination of instruments.
Woodwind quintet music was a favorite of the court of Joseph II in late 18th century in Vienna. Although this style of music fell out of favor in the latter half of the 19th century, there was renewed interest by leading composers in the 20th century. Today, a woodwind quintet is a standard chamber ensemble valued for its versatility and unique sound.
The Odyssey Woodwind Quintet features the talents of musicians Donald Dragonski, bassoon; Ralph del Monico, clarinet; John Bentley, oboe; Suzy Fox , flute; and Paul Williams, French horn.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information contact Jill Wagner at 708-386-4040.
