A Red Hot Musical Valentine with Frances Asher

Singer/composer/actress Frances Asher will present a show titled, “Little Red’s Red Hot Musical Valentine” at 1 p.m. Monday Feb. 13, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave.

Called “Little Red,” by friends and family, Fran Asher plays Electra in “Gypsy” now on stage at Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace. She resides in Oak Park.

“We are thrilled to welcome Fran back to the Arms,” said Desi Vasquez, social programming director. “She is always so generous with her time and good to the residents.”

Asher was a featured performer (Sheila) in the fourth company of the Broadway hit musical “Hair.” She has performed at the Shubert Theatre in Los Angeles, the Curran Theatre in San Francisco, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. She also appeared in the first national tour of the Tony nominated musical “Pump Boys and Dinettes.” She played Nellie Forbush in the Hawaiian production of “South Pacific,” directed by Hollywood director/actor Ray Danton.

She has performed her own original music at venues in New York City and Los Angeles as well as performances at New York's Bottom Line with the Paul Schaefer Band (of David Letterman fame).

Since moving to Oak Park, Asher has performed at some of the major Chicago venues including the Goldstar Sardine Bar, the Drake Hotel and the Pump Room as well as local Oak Park clubs including the Marion Street Cheese Market and the Dragon Lounge. Her latest CD, “Stop Drop and Swing” includes classic standards as well as exciting originals.

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides senior independent living and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
