Oak Park Arms Independent, Assisted Living and Short-Term Stay Rental Retirement Community

Art Exhibit Opening with Renowned Sculptor Deborah Pieritz

2 PianosCelebrated sculptor Deborah Pieritz will be present at a wine and cheese reception for the opening of her show, “2 Measures - A Composition of Toy Pianos,” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in the Narrows Gallery, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave.

The work is an art installation loosely based on the combination of a small round of music by John Cage, the avant-garde composer; her failed piano lessons with  Sister Ursalina, a mid-century nun whom Pieritz calls a “musical terrorist” and the Grand Ballroom of the Oak Park Arms.

Pieritz received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Barat College. Over the past 25 years, her work has been shown both regionally and nationally at the Art Institute of Chicago; the National Museum of Art, Washington, D.C.; the Portland Art Museum; the Viridian Gallery, New York; the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, Chicago; the Kohler Art Center, Wisconsin; the Chicago Botanic Garden; and the Evanston Art Center.

Most recently Pieritz has had exhibits at The Art Center, Highland Park; the Fine Arts Building Gallery, Chicago; the Beverly Art Center, Chicago; and in the Pedway of Chicago’s City Hall.

“When I am not working on my art,” Pieritz said. “I help run Pieritz Bros. Office Supplies, my family’s 116-year-old, Oak Park stationery store.”

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides senior independent living and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
