Narrow Gallery: Nature As We See It

A Place to Pray by Corrie Huisman TamelingA wine and cheese reception will take place for the debut of a new art exhibit from 2 — 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1, in the Narrow Gallery at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave.

Oil paintings depicting renderings of natural landscapes, done by artists Dee Leppin and Corrie Huisman Tameling, will be featured.

Hinsdale resident and Oak Park native, Leppin is a representational artist whose love of nature can be felt in her paintings through her use of color and light. Her works often highlight water and/or clouds, both in calm reflections and turbulent movement and include the subtle details which intrigue her.

She has exhibited in national and regional shows presented by Oil Painters of America and Chicago Pastel Painters and has received numerous awards for her work in oil and pastel. Her paintings are in private collections throughout the country.

Born in the Netherlands, Tameling came to the United States when she was a young girl. After raising her four children, she began pursuing her interest in art. She is inspired by the works of Old Dutch Masters, and her style is mainly representational. Tameling is also a member of the McCord House in Palos Park, and her work is held in private collections in Michigan, the Chicagoland area and London.

“I feel grateful to God, the master artist, for opening my eyes to the beauty in nature,” Tameling said. “I believe the beauty of landscape was his gift to us, and I hope to convey these feelings to others as they view my paintings.”

Both Leppin and Tameling are members of the LaGrange Art League and Naperville Art League.

The gallery can be viewed daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. through Saturday, Aug. 9th.
