film reelThe Polish Film Festival series continues with the film, “Blue” at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The film is the second of a trilogy and will be viewed and reviewed with radio announcer Dan Kane.

“Blue,” the 1993 French-Polish drama art film, is the first in The Three Colors Trilogy co-written, produced and directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski and based on the French Revolutionary ideals. “White” and “Red” follow respectively.

Starring Juliette Binoche and Julie Delpy, the film portrays tragedy and recovery in Paris in the 1990s with a focus on emotional liberty.

When a woman finds herself free from the familial responsibility when her husband and child are killed in a car accident, she attempts to cut herself off from everything else and live in isolation. She finds, however, that she is unable to fully free herself from human connections.

Three Colors: Blue received universally positive reviews and went on to win Best Film at the Venice Film Festival and Best European Film at the Goya Awards, among others.
