Fitness Programs: You can do it, we can help

The Oak Park Arms supports and promotes active and healthy senior living. Residents enjoy a convenient on-site fitness center, twice daily fitness and exercise classes, and an ongoing “Quality of Life” education series.

Oak Park Arms retirement community resident strength training on resistance machineHealth and fitness center:

  • Treadmills
  • Recumbent and upright bikes
  • Elliptical machine
  • More than a dozen resistance machines 
    for strength training
  • Pully strengthening system

Fitness and exercise classes for seniors:

Mornings

  • Sit and Be Fit, 9:30 a.m. Mondays
    Using a chair for support, participants will do gentle exercises.

  • Chair yoga for seniors at the Oak Park Arms retirement communityChair Yoga and Meditation, 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays
    The class focuses on gentle stretches sitting or standing using a chair for support. Yoga postures and breathing techniques are combined maximizing relaxation and stillness.
     
  • Sit and Be Fit, 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays
    Using a chair for support, participants will do gentle exercises.
     
  • Walk and Roll, 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays
    Oak Park Arms residents, volunteers and members of the community can walk outdoors and enjoy exercise while socializing.
     
  • Fall Prevention by West Suburban Hospital - 9:30 a.m. Thursdays
    The goal of this class is to improve muscle strength and balance using dumbbells and bands.
     
  • Sit and Be Fit, 9:30 a.m. Fridays
    Using a chair for support, participants will do gentle exercises.

Afternoons

  • Walk and Roll, 5 p.m. Mondays
    Oak Park Arms residents, volunteers and members of the community can walk outdoors and enjoy exercise while socializing.
     
  • Happy Body Workshop, 1 p.m. Tuesdays
    The class employs extension exercises focusing on lengthening the spine. It will also loosen and relax major joints.
     
  • Yoga for Everyone, 1 p.m. Wednesdays
    Participants will stand and sit in Yoga postures while employing breathing techniques. Variations are offered for all levels.
     
  • Power Tai Chi, 1 p.m. Thursdays
    Participants will learn to move effectively, connect the breath, and release energy.  Power Tai Chi is a slow martial art form which stimulates the nervous system.
     
  • Interim Exercise: Strength and Balance, 1 p.m. Fridays
    Learn techniques to improve strength and balance, and learn how to  prevent falls through exercise and home safety tips.
