Music Club: The Holiday Season’s Lesser Known Favorites

The Oak Park Arms Music Club called, “Spinning the Oldies,” will feature a program titled, “Holiday Season’s Lesser Known Favorites”at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 10, in the Grand Ballroom of the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The Music Club is hosted by radio announcer Dan Kane.

“Some Christmas songs are over-played on the radio in December,” Kane said. “We’ll feature music that will make the audience appreciate this ‘most wonderful time of the year.’ ”

Oak Park disc jockey Dan Kane has discovered there are still a number of fans of the music that was popular in the middle years of the 20th century, roughly 1935 to 1975.

Once a month, Dan brings his massive collection of CD’s over to the Oak Park Arms, where a growing crowd of folks from the community gather to reminisce, tap their feet, and catch up on the latest sounds from the 20th century. The program spans multiple musical genre: classical, pop, jazz and big band and folk musical selections.

Musical selections prompt, “Where were you when” conversations and interesting trivia stirred by memories.

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
