Art Exhibition: ‘Zig, Fong and Des Water Show’

Nancy Fong - Building Sand CastlesA wine and cheese reception will take place for the opening of a new art installation, “Zig, Fong and Des Water Show,” from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, September 27, in the Narrow Gallery at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The reception is free and open to the public. The exhibit can be viewed daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. through Sunday, October 31, 2015.

Three artists – Zygmunt Sokolnicki, Nancy Fong and Desi Vasquez – present water-themed paintings in watercolor, oil and acrylic paint.

A very accomplished man, Zygmunt Sokolnicki attended Chicago’s Lane Tech High School, Wright Junior College and the University of Illinois. At age 65, he received a Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School. Watercolor is his passion, and he has worked in acrylic and pencil as well. He does still life, landscapes and waterscapes.

Nancy Fong is a figurative painter who teaches art to children, adults and seniors in Oak Park and nearby suburbs.  She has been exhibiting her work for many years and has a painting in Oak Park Public Library’s permanent collection and two murals on the Green Line embankment. Fong earned her bachelor of arts degree in Studio Art at UIC.

Desi Vasquez is a painter and teacher who trained at the Art Institute of Chicago and then at the Art Students League of New York. Her favored medium is acrylic on canvas. She has two murals in Oak Park on the Green line train embankment titled: “Making Waves” and “Nice Work.”

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
