Ann Primack artA wine and cheese reception will take place for the opening of a new art installation from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Narrow Gallery at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The works of Ann Primack are featured, and the exhibit is titled, “Tiles from her Travels.”

An Oak Park resident, Primack makes one-of-a-kind pieces in clay. Some of her work is on display at the Illinois Artisans’ Shop in the State of Illinois Building.

“In the past I have done commissions for people of their home on a tile in relief as well as hand painted tiles for their kitchens and baths,” Primack said. “I also enjoy making 3-D sculptures of people and animals.”

This past year she was chosen for a six week Residency Program in Ceramics in Rome, Italy, where her work culminated in a gallery show.”

“My ideas centered on making tiles based on the ancient buildings I saw everywhere I went,” she said. “I took a lot of photos, and I hope to share those as well in this upcoming show at the Oak Park Arms.”

A teacher of ceramics at the Oak Park Arms’ Lifelong Learning Center, Primack has instructed at the Oak Park Art League and the Senior Citizens Center of Oak Park and River Forest, Oak Park’s Big Scaw Ceramics, an after school program in Chicago’s Chinatown, the Park District of Oak Park and Oak Park’s Alcuin Montessori School.

She studied art and ceramics at Colorado College, Colorado Springs, CO; the Appalachian Center for the Crafts, Smithville, TN; the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of Illinois-Chicago. She apprenticed to Master Potter Scott Curie, in South Paris, Maine, for a year.

The reception is free and open to the public. The works will be on display from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday, through Oct. 3.

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
