Here’s to Your Health: Healthy Aging over 65

Interim HealthcareA representative from Interim HealthCare will present a talk titled “Healthy Aging for Seniors Over 65” at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Oak Park Arms retirement community, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The seminar is part of the ongoing monthly series called, “Here’s To Your Health.”

Although there are some diseases that become more common as we age, getting older does not have to mean poor health. Practicing habits that will promote healthy aging in seniors over the age of 65 will help improve not only their quality of life, but keep them engaged and vital members of the community as well.

Preventive measures like healthy eating, managing stress and exercise can help reduce the risk of injuries or chronic diseases later in life. Regardless of one’s age or fitness level, there are a number of appropriate activities from which to choose.

Other ways to help ensure healthy aging in adults include:
•    having supporting caregivers
•    providing nutrition and social connections for seniors
•    supporting community engagement
•    providing leadership in the community

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information call 708-386-4040.
