Short-Term Stay Rental Retirement Community
The Arms Reader’s Theatre Ensemble (ARTE) presents readings from the works of Carl Sandburg at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave.
Much of Carl Sandburg’s poetry is about Chicago where he spent time as a reporter for the Chicago Daily News. His most famous description of the city is as “Hog Butcher for the World/Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat/Player with Railroads and the Nation’s Freight Handler/Stormy, Husky, Brawling, City of the Big Shoulders.”
The Oak Park Arms’ Reader’s Theatre offers a wide variety of performances ranging from ensemble and script readings to poetry solos and adaptations of short stories. Recently, the members of the group took their show “on the road” with a performance at Triton College, Maywood.
Led by Paul Bularzik, the group includes Charles Costello, John Demetrikakis, Paul “Doc” Doolin, Nancy Elsmo, Gloria Hannis, Marian Menges, Joyce Proce, Roslyn Theobald, Henery Turkowski, Marion Ulrich and Joan van Note.
While most of the members are residents at the Arms, the public is warmly welcome to join.
The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information call 708-386-4040.
