Legislative leaders connect with community at Oak Park Arms ‘Democracy in Action’ event

The “Democracy in Action” event, hosted July 16 by the Oak Park Arms, brought together senior residents and members of the public for a dynamic discussion with Illinois legislators. Senator Don Harmon, 39th president of the Illinois Senate, and Representative Camille Lilly, Assistant Majority Leader of the Illinois House of Representatives for District 78, engaged with the community, providing updates from Springfield and answering questions.

The event, held at the senior living community located at 408 S. Oak Park Ave., Oak Park, began with Senator Harmon and Representative Lilly sharing legislative insights. This was followed by a question-and-answer session.

“We were incredibly honored to welcome Senator Harmon and Representative Lilly to the Oak Park Arms for the ‘Democracy in Action’ event,” said Moses Williams, executive director of the Oak Park Arms. “It was a resounding success, and the vibrant engagement from our senior residents and the wider community truly demonstrated the importance of fostering civic dialogue. We believe providing platforms that encourage this level of civic engagement and understanding is vital. We were thrilled to host such a well-received and informative event.”
